Wall Design Inspiration

Everyone wants their interiors to look fantastic, and if they can look different from the standard cream walls with sporadically hung paintings, even better! When working with a plain wall as a blank canvas there are lots that can be done – and there’s plenty of inspiration online to give you design ideas. With the right gallery hanging system, as well as pieces of art you love and spaces you want to fill, there’s no limit what you can do with your interior design. Consider incorporating the following tips into your new feature wall.

Make a mix and match gallery

Gallery walls are a fantastic way to showcase large or curated collections in a manner that draws in the eye without overwhelming a wall or room. Including custom word art for walls online in your gallery can add a personalized touch to the display. If you have lots of prints, posters, paintings, plates, crafts, and custom word art to display, they can be shaped into a gallery wall by mixing and matching types of art. Try to ensure each piece, including the custom word art, has a common trait and present it as a planned design, be it a color in the piece, a similar frame, or a similar theme. Gallery walls can also be created out of just a few pieces, like a striking line of word art, by hanging them in a line or shape. This approach allows for a unique expression of style and personality in your space.

Sticker up!

If you live in a rented property and/or are unable to put holes in the walls or make permanent changes to them, wall stickers make for a great alternative. Specially designed to not peel off wall surfaces and be easy to adhere and remove, these stickers are often made of vinyl or similar plastic and tend not to use a strong glue adhesive. Wall stickers are available in custom designs, patterns and even frames to go around prints or paintings hung on walls.

Frame things differently

Photo and picture frames used to be unwieldy and expensive items to purchase made of expensive materials, but this is no longer the case. Non-standard frames are available in a variety of different sizes, and can be custom made. There are also now non-frame alternatives that look great, including washi tape, binder clips, strings and clips, skirt hangers and clipboards. With a little creativity, there’s lots that can be done – even mixing traditional interior features such as picture rails with non-traditional frame alternatives for a modern and contemporary look.

Statement wallpaper and colours

Walls don’t necessarily need to be covered in art to look great! Interior design concepts such as painting one wall a different colour to the others or wallpapering one as a ‘statement wall’ can create a great aesthetic. Such walls may be a complementary colour compared to other more neutral tones used, or a bold pattern or design to stand out. These are commonly seen on plastered chimney walls or the perceived ‘main’ wall of a room that features the television or where the furniture faces to. Wallpaper or wall stickers can even be used to give the perception of brick, wooden panelling and/or library shelves – the possibilities are endless!

The best wall decoration is the one that suits your home and your tastes best, so don’t feel constrained by traditional interior design if it just doesn’t work for you. If magnolia paint and hanging paintings are what you like, go for it, but if you’d like to create something more innovative or unusual, you can do that too! Websites such as Pinterest allow fantastic inspiration curation and storyboarding, so no matter how many or few design qualifications you hold, you can create professional interiors – and best of all, they’ll be unique to you.
