Ways to Keep Your Interior Smelling Fresh and Clean

Updated July 20th, 2022

All homes have unique scents. Some houses smell better than others. Regardless of how spotless your house is, many odors occur naturally. Especially when you have pets living in the home or an overflowing trash can and a really smelly shoe collection.

Even though some smells need patience and elbow grease. There exists many other ways to freshen up your space aroma daily.

In this article we talk about ways you can use to keep your interior smelling fresh and clean all day every day, starting with the disposing of your smelly garbage in your kitchen.

Clean your trash can

Do you notice a lingering stink in your cooking space? If you do, have a look at the sink. You can remove the odor in your trash can by sprinkling drops of scented dish liquid. You also have the option to run lime rinds or lemon through the trash, together with large amounts of water. If the smell continues, pour half a cup of baking soda into the garbage and run warm water through it.

Having a mix of odors from leftovers, and food scraps can certainly create an unwelcoming stench. But sometimes it’s not the trash that smells bad, it’s the actual trash can.

So when you’re giving your kitchen a deep clean, add baking soda to your garbage can. Alternatively, you can use patchouli laundry detergent or a deodorizing pack and place it under the cans liner. Complete the cleaning job by utilizing a disinfecting spray that will kill any bacteria or germs that remain.

Refresh rugs and carpets

Unlike hardwood and tile, carpets have a greater capacity to absorb bad smells, more especially after several pet messes and food spills. All you need to do is sprinkle baking soda on top of the carpet, not only on the problem areas but all over. Allow the baking soda to sit for a couple of hours before vacuuming.

The same process works wonders if you want to clean your mattresses and pet beds or any other “points of smell” in your house.

Burn fruit and herbs on the stove

Take a little bit of water and simmer it in a small saucepan add herbs like mint, lavender, and citrus slices. The heat will be able to distribute the sweet scent throughout your home and is also adaptable depending on the type of ingredients you have in your home.

Spread candles throughout your space

Candles are one of the most well-known options to use if you desire to fill your home with a beautiful aroma that tickles your fancy. Placing them strategically is one of the easiest methods to use if you want to increase their effectiveness.

For instance, try placing them in the linen closet or any place where you put your fabrics because that way your fabrics will be able to absorb the pleasant smell. This way you will achieve a pleasant smell every time you walk through your door and your linens will carry the scent whenever you utilize them.

Take the outside in

Placing plants inside your home will clean the air in and around you instantly, giving your home a beautiful smell. Some plants include gardenias, jasmine, and eucalyptus, they provide lovely fragrances as well. Just make sure know how to take care of them.

Refresh your air vents

Buy a car deodorizer, then when the air blows through, the fragrance will spread throughout the house. This way you will give your entire home a unique and uniform scent.

Sterilize with dryer sheets

You can place a small number of dryers sheets in your dressers, closets, or any other tiny space. This will give everything else a beautiful fresh-out-the-box laundry scent even if it’s been put away for a number of months.

Do it yourself reed diffuser

You can create a basic DIY type of reed diffuser by using baby oil. Include 1 teaspoon of your most-loved essential oil in a small glass cup or container then fill the remaining space with baby oil. If you are using a big container you may have to add more than just 1 teaspoon of essential oil.

Put rattan diffuser sticks within the vessel and stir the mixture gently. Place your DIY reed diffuser on top of a table or countertop to infuse the space with a pleasant scent.

Make your own linen spray

This DIY linen spray can sterilize bedding, clothes, towels, and furniture covered with fabric. All you have to do is pour 1 tablespoon of vodka inside a liquid measuring cup, then pour it inside a spray bottle.

Add some essential oil about 35 drops, use a mix of scents if you like. Then add distilled water inside the rest of the bottle. Attach the bottle lid and make sure you shake the bottle so that it mixes properly.

Spray your linen clothes and sheets when you need to. Keep the rest of your space smelling fresh and clean.
